Portrait Artist Thomas V. Nash

Academy 2005

Highlights

In his opening Keynote remarks, Tom emphasized the importance of a firm foundation and knowing what you wanted to do and why you wanted to do it.

Tom also believes in not taking himself too seriously but takes his work very seriously.

During the course of the day Tom gave four separate presentations. There were hundreds of images. These dealt with: Drawing, Light & Shade & Color, Form & Texture and Perspective.

Here Tom discussed his use of color in a large family portrait.

Although the live demonstration had to be done under an artificial light, Tom used slides like this to illustrate the color variations seen in skin tones under natural light. Above a real hand and arm are contrasted with the dull monochrome tones of a manikin arm.
